Natural dark citrine, also known as untreated citrine, is a precious and sought-after variety of quartz that boasts a rich, deep golden to amber hue. Unlike most citrine on the market which are coloured through several processes, natural dark citrine derives its exquisite shade from the presence of iron impurities during its formation. Other citrines are typically treated with a dye or irradiated to enhance their colour, while natural citrine from the earth is generally amethyst which went through a colour shift caused by volcanic and earth heat over a very long time.
As this dark citrine is neither coloured, nor irratiated, nor heated by volcanic activity to create it’s striking colour, it is considered a more valuable and rare gemstone.
